The C9300X-48HXN-A is a Cisco Catalyst 9300X Series stackable access switch for wiring closets that power multigigabit endpoints and need Network Advantage routing and segmentation. The switch has 8 10G and 40 5G Multigigabit UPOE+ ports, a 690W PoE budget on the default 1100W supply, a modular uplink slot and 960 Gbps of switching capacity. Hardware IPsec at up to 100G also runs on the switch, but only after an HSEC key is installed alongside the Advantage subscription.

Two Port Speeds On One Switch

Eight ports negotiate up to 10G, and the other forty top out at 5G; every port also runs 2.5G, 1G and 100M. A 10G run needs Cat6 for up to 55 m or Cat6A for 100 m, and Cat6A is the recommended cable for 5G because Cat5e is not guaranteed to 100 m above 2.5G.

PoE Budget Grows With The Supplies

The default 1100W supply leaves 690W for PoE, enough for seven ports at a full 90W. A second 1100W supply lifts the budget to 1790W, and a pair of 1900W supplies on 230V input reaches 3390W, which covers 37 ports at 90W or all 48 at 60W.

Reduced Port Counts On Uplink Modules

On this chassis the eight-port C9300X-NM-8M and C9300X-NM-8Y modules run ports 1 to 6, with ports 7 and 8 permanently disabled. C9300X-NM-2C keeps both 100G ports but supports a breakout cable only on port 1, and C9300X-NM-4C does not fit.

What Network Advantage Adds

Network Advantage lifts the 1,000-route OSPF ceiling and adds BGP, IS-IS and HSRP. It also brings VRF, VXLAN, LISP, Cisco TrustSec and MPLS for segmentation, MACsec-256 on the links, and NETCONF, RESTCONF and gRPC for automation.

100G IPsec Terminated On The Switch

The UADP 2.0sec ASIC encrypts at up to 100G with AES-256. Tunnels can end on the access switch itself once two pieces are in place: a separately ordered HSEC key and the Advantage tier of the Cisco Catalyst or Cisco DNA subscription.

StackWise-1T And StackPower+

Up to eight Catalyst 9300X switches stack at 1 Tbps, provided every member runs the same license level. A non-X Catalyst 9300 member drops the stack to StackWise-480 speed. StackPower+ shares supply capacity across up to four switches per ring, or eight with an XPS-2200.

C9300X-48HXN-A and C9300X-48HX-A both carry 48 UPOE+ ports, but the C9300X-48HXN-A runs only eight of them at 10G and the other 40 at up to 5G, with 960 Gbps of switching against 1,760 Gbps. Floors that need 10G on every port, or the four-port C9300X-NM-4C uplink, belong on C9300X-48HX-A. A closet that runs Layer 2 and OSPF within 1,000 routes can drop to C9300X-48HXN-E and give up BGP, VXLAN, MPLS, MACsec-256 and hardware IPsec. Moving back up later takes a C9300-LIC= term such as C9300-48-E-A-5, which cannot be added to the original order. Where 24 ports are enough, C9300X-24HX-A runs all of them at 10G with a 735W default budget.

Ordering Checklist

Subscription tier: Order a 48-port Advantage term of 3, 5 or 7 years, such as C9300-DNA-A-48-5Y for Cisco DNA or C9300-DNX-A-48-5Y for Cisco Catalyst. New orders need a subscription at the same tier as the network license.
HSEC key: Add the HSEC key when IPsec tunnels will end on the switch. Hardware IPsec stays unavailable without it, even on Network Advantage.
Uplink module: The configurator adds C9300X-NM-2C; keep it, change it to C9300X-NM-8M or C9300X-NM-8Y, or select C9300X-NM-NONE. C9300X-NM-4C does not fit this switch, and a slot left empty needs a blank.
Second power supply: A second PWR-C1-1100WAC-P is selected by default and C9300-SPS-NONE removes it. Without it the PoE budget stays at 690W instead of 1790W.
Stack cables: A 3 m StackWise cable and a 150 cm StackPower cable come with each switch unless C9300X-STACK-NONE and C9300-SPWR-NONE are selected. Unstacked switches otherwise arrive with cables they do not use.
Power cords: Select the cord type for the destination country, because the configurator defaults to North American cords and two ship with each switch.
