The C9300X-12Y-E is a Cisco Catalyst 9300X Series stackable access switch for equipment rooms and fiber closets that terminate 25G, 10G and 1G links. The switch has 12 SFP28 ports at 25G/10G/1G, a modular uplink slot that ships empty, 1,000 Gbps of switching capacity and a default PWR-C1-715WAC-P 715W AC supply with no PoE. The -E suffix carries Network Essentials, which routes up to 1,000 OSPF routes with MACsec-128 but leaves out VXLAN, LISP and MPLS.

All 12 downlink ports are SFP28 and run at 25G, 10G or 1G, so existing 1G and 10G fiber links and new 25G links share one switch. The ports use LC fiber connectors.

Uplink Slot That Ships Empty

The modular uplink slot takes C9300X-NM-8M, C9300X-NM-8Y or C9300X-NM-2C and is delivered without a module. C9300X-NM-4C is not supported on this model.

Data Only, With Two Supply Bays

The chassis supplies no PoE. Both power bays take PWR-C1-715WAC-P supplies, so a second supply adds redundancy and nothing else.

Stack Speed Set By The Members

Up to eight switches form a StackWise-1T stack at 1 Tbps when every member is a Catalyst 9300X. A non-X Catalyst 9300 in the stack drops the whole stack to StackWise-480 speed, and StackPower+ can pool power across the members.

Network Essentials Scope

The license covers Layer 2 switching, routed access with OSPF up to 1,000 routes, PVLAN, 802.1X and MACsec-128. VXLAN, LISP and MPLS belong to Network Advantage.

Short Chassis For Fiber Rooms

With the default supply installed the switch is 17.6 in deep and weighs 15.0 lb. C9300X-48TX-E with its default supply measures 20.56 in deep.

C9300X-12Y-E has 12 SFP28 ports and 1,000 Gbps of standalone switching, where C9300X-24Y-E has 24 SFP28 ports and 2,000 Gbps, so racks that need more than 12 fiber ports at 25G, 10G or 1G start from C9300X-24Y-E. The 4x100G C9300X-NM-4C uplink module fits C9300X-24Y-E but not this model. Copper Multigigabit cabling points to C9300X-48TX-E, with 48 ports from 100M to 10G and 1,760 Gbps of switching. None of the three supplies PoE. Network Essentials limits OSPF to 1,000 routes; a site that needs more, or other Advantage features, orders C9300X-12Y-A, since a C9300-LIC= upgrade cannot be placed on the original switch order.

Ordering Checklist

  • Subscription tier: Order a Network Essentials term from the C9300-DNA-L-E family, for 3, 5 or 7 years. The configurator defaults to Cisco DNA Advantage with a 5-year term, which does not match a Network Essentials switch.
  • Uplink module: Keep the default C9300X-NM-2C, choose C9300X-NM-8M or C9300X-NM-8Y, or select C9300X-NM-NONE; C9300X-NM-4C does not fit this switch. The switch should run only with a network module or a blank installed.
  • Second power supply: A second PWR-C1-715WAC-P is added by default and C9300-SPS-NONE removes it. Without the second supply the switch has no power redundancy.
  • Stack cables: The configurator adds a 3 m StackWise cable and a 150 cm StackPower cable per switch; C9300X-STACK-NONE and C9300-SPWR-NONE remove them. Left as defaults, every switch on the order carries both cables, whether or not it is stacked.
